Hannah went in immediately after her, making like she was enthusiastically dashing; in actual fact she was taking in as much of the house as she could, all the stuff Sam had and how that corresponded to the woman she knew.

"Wow. You don't pack light," Kaidan said, glancing around. "So... you'll be overseeing our relationship with Portalocity, right?"

"That's right," Sam confirmed from over by the sink. "Alliance networking and managing this branch. I'm told it'll require quite a bit of damage control."

She brought two glasses of water over to the table and set them down for Kaidan and Hannah. "And you're... teaching?"

From:

Hannah went for her glass of water with considerably less enthusiasm. She took a quick sip and then let her gaze run over the kitchen counters.

From:

"Yeah," Kaidan said, taking a drink from his own glass. "Industrial Arts right now. Still deciding on something for the summer. Mostly I'm here to liaise, though. So we'll be communicating quite a bit from here on in."

Sam nodded. She'd figured being sent to the same small town as someone else in the Alliance meant that they'd probably have to interact every so often. "Well, from what I hear, once I'm settled into the office, I'll likely reach a point where any communication that isn't about someone being inadvertently portaled to the London blitz will be more than welcome," she remarked.

Hmm. "Industrial Arts," she echoed curiously. "What sort of things are you having them make?"

"Most of the time, whatever they like, really," Kaidan admitted. "They're a talented bunch of kids - I don't have as much to teach them as I might have, uh, anticipated. But they're working on putting together their own battle robots for finals. Figured that'd keep them busy."

Since they seemed to be engrossed in talking, Hannah quietly slipped out of her seat and wandered towards the giant stack of Sam's things to poke around.

Among other items, one of the things Hannah might find was a GUI interface chessboard, which she could set to have the computer play against her.

"Battle robots?" Sam repeated, looking more than a little bit intrigued. "VIs, then? That sounds fascinating. Do any of them look especially good?"

"VIs, remote control, whatever they want to run with," Kaidan confirmed, taking another sip of water. "And... I don't know. I can say this, some of them are getting really creative."

Hannah poked at the chess board for a few moments, activating it with ease - this wasn't new technology for her.

But eventually she grew bored of that and snuck down a little further.

Like towards the toiletries.

Just be careful with that toothbrush, Hannah. That was a very important toothbrush.

"I'd be interested in taking a look, if the final is public at all," Sam said curiously. "I'm certainly still figuring out how the technology works here. I doubt I could put together a fully-functional battle robot with the resources available here."

"It's just a couple of centuries out of date," Kaidan said. "...Well, one century. But it's a century that packed a wallop."

He drummed his fingers against the table. "I'm not sure how the school feels about civilians-- I mean, non-teachers on the..."

Wait.

"Hannah?"

"I found The Toothbrush!" Hannah declared triumphantly, holding it aloft.

"I'm sorry?"

Sam glanced at Kaidan to see if he knew what the excitement was about. "It's a Cision Pro Mark III," she added. "It's not even all that new."

The Mark IV was in development, though. That one would be pretty great.

"I..."

Uh.

"...I have no idea," Kaidan said, scratching at the back of his head. "Crazy weekend."

The 'Can I keep it?' was halfway out of Hannah's mouth before it occurred to her that no, that would be a terrible idea. They'd need that toothbrush later.

(The next model, actually, and the second edition thereof at that. But she was too excited to double-check that.)

"...Uh. It's going to be big some day!"

"I'll... keep that in mind. Thank you, Hannah," Sam replied with a wary smile of a sort.

And another questioning glance at Kaidan.

"Specialist," Kaidan said, finally recovering. "Don't ask. What do you need moved?"

Hannah scuttled away to put that toothbrush back.

"Oh, yes, right." Something else to accomplish. "Well, I found a dresser at IKEA, but it's a bit of a pain to get up the stairs, so if you wouldn't mind taking one side...?"

"I could just do it biotically," Kaidan pointed out. "Won't take more than a minute."
