Sam had to admit that she wasn't likely to miss Fandom for the most part. Oh, sure, she'd miss the gigantic house that she still couldn't believe the Alliance had set her up in, and she'd certainly miss the convenient access to "American" restaurants -- she'd developed a minor addiction to Taste of Thai. But when her reassignment orders came in late Monday night, she honestly wasn't too bothered by the idea of leaving Fandom for good.

Because of all the postings she could have gotten, retrofitting one of the fleet's best ships -- well, that was nothing to sneeze at. Even for someone with seasonal allergies like Sam's.

She had to stare at her datapad for a long time before she was able to convince herself that this was really where she was going to be stationed for the next year, effective Friday morning.

"Well," she said, looking at Rook. "This should be an interesting challenge, now shouldn't it?"

(Don't ask her about the loss of her planet less than two days ago. She was gritting her teeth and forcing herself to focus on other things.)

"Er, all right," Sam said, pushing the door further open to let Allie inside. "The living room's just through there. Can I get you some tea or anything?"

She was grieving and preoccupied all at once, but she still had manners.

Shaking her head, Allie stepped inside. "No, I'm fine, thank you though, for offering."

"How are you doing?"

"I... don't really know," Sam said bluntly with an apologetic forced smile. "Thank you for helping out the other day. I'm sure the alternative would have been quite grim."

Since she'd had her own thoughts on how things would have turned out, Allie nodded in agreement. "I'm just glad I was in a position to help. It's why I'm here actually. I know I was kind of abrupt on the phone as it was happening, but I wanted to say thank you for helping me get that portal to get Kaidan out of New Covington."

"Oh, of course," Sam said. "That's my job. Literally. You're far from the most curt customer I've dealt with, and in your case I do know it was for a good cause."

"I know. It doesn't mean I can't thank you. To use your own words," Allie said with a wry smile, "If you handn't gotten us out of there, it would have been grim."
